November 2007

November was a successful month for DLM Design with them being able to achieve planning on a number of sites in the Bournemouth and Poole areas on many projects, but the icing on the cake was planning approval for 8 luxury 3 bedroom apartments on the site of 140 Canford Cliffs Road. On behalf of Blue2 properties and with the assistance of Sibbet Gregory Planning Consultants we were able to design a development of 8 luxury apartments in an Arts & Crafts style building on the site of an existing large residential plot. The original application was refused in 2006 when a more contemporary design was used and although a subsequent appeal was also refused, there were many items that the inspector had put forward which allowed the revised scheme to be presented and subsequently approved. This was a very difficult site that required some detailed thought and we are extremely pleased to have been involved on it.

Keith Martin finally retires after a very long and distinguished service and having seen Simon purchase the practice from him in 2005 Keith finally decided to put away his pencils allowing him to take up a consultancy role and give him more time for family life. It also gave Keith the opportunity to arrange an operation that he had long required on his ankle following a car accident in the 80’s which had left him in considerable pain requiring specialist care. Although he will be sadly missed, it will not be goodbye forever as he will be involved on future projects and as Senior Executive he will also be assisting Simon in procuring new clients and new projects.

DLM Design are very pleased to announce the arrival of David Swain, a senior architectural technologist, who has joined them on a full time basis. David has many years of experience working in the private sector and he has been brought in to assist Simon and the team in providing clients with the detailed building control and working drawing programs which form a large part of our service. Simon and David have worked together in a previous life and have maintained contact and friendship over the years and Simon is particularly pleased and excited that David has agreed to join them at DLM Design to assist Simon in being able to drive the company forward and taking on larger detailed projects. David’s experience and knowledge in particular with the building regulations and associated documents, will ensure that DLM Design will continue to be at the forefront of providing architectural services for the public and private sectors in all aspects of design.
