The building is conceived as being of two parts: a single storey Boatshed, with timber cladding reminiscent of traditional maritime buildings, and a two storey support accommodation block that is carried out in rendered masonry.

RNLI Lifeboat Station, Mudeford, ChristchurchWhilst fulfilling its primary function as a rescue base, the building is also sited and configured to enhance an area of the quay, that is, at present, a service yard for deliveries to the Stalls on the quay. A hard landscaping scheme for developing the open space adjoining the building, will form a new focus to the promontory, and define the enclave encompassing existing tourist facilities.
